Safety - you should look into obtaining some sort of security box. Although theft is not well known by the locals, there are still cases where other tourists commit the crime.
Souvenirs - there are many souvenirs to be brought back home from Crete, many are what you can expect from other countries such as fridge magnets, postcards and other novelty items.
Sports - there is a huge variety of sports if you go on holiday in Crete, these include: mountain walking, rock or ice climbing, hunting, fishing, scuba diving, water skiing, wind surfing, snorkelling, horse or donkey riding and you will also be able to find a bungee jumping attraction. There is an 18 hole golf course in Hersonissos and many of the bigger hotels will have tennis courts and gyms.

Taxis - taxis in Crete are fair and readily available, you will either pay before you drive on an agreed price or follow the meter.
Toilets - these are in most venues and will have a WC sign on the door, you need to ensure that used toilet paper is placed in the appropriate bins. Failing to do so will result in the pipes being blocked as they are too thin for the paper.

Weather - the weather in Crete is extremely hot, you can expect temperatures around 22 and 27 C in the summer and anything between 15 and 18 C in the winter. The hottest time of the day is between 12 and 3 in the afternoon, many of the shops close and the locals are not likely to be seen out in the sun.
